In truth there are many good products on the market, but there are thousands more that are not much more than water and dishsoap! Most manufacturers and retailers will only sell a heavily watered down product for fear of the end user damaging their sofa with a strong cleaning product. Everybody wants the magic leather cleaner that removes dirt that has been sitting there for 5 years, in one easy wipe! It does exist, but it also removes the top coat and colour from your leather, so the choice is yours. It is far better to use the correct leather cleaner, which may be weaker than you’d like, but to clean the leather 2 or 3 times. This way you still get the clean you want and keep the finish and colour where it should be!

No gimmicks – this small-cell sponge is absolutely essential to clean leather thoroughly. This is much safer to use than a brush or harder sponge. Our sponge is a light weight soft white material that expands when the cleaner is applied and is designed to ensure not to damage even the most delicate leather types. It is much better to repeat the cleaning process, than to use a harder sponge and damage the top-coat.

1 White Cotton Microfiber Cloth
Most professionals will use a towel cloth to dry the leather and apply the final conditioning application, but most care kits will only give you a low-grade nylon flat cloth, for the simple reason that it is cheaper! Our microfiber can be washed and reused time and time again.

95% of the leather sold in the world today is what is known as ‘Protected’ or ‘Corrected’ leather, which is intially dyed and then a pigment and top coat is sprayed on to give the finish that you will recognise.

Depending on the quality of the leather and the tannery that created the hide, this coating will deteriorate over time depending on use and the care it receives. This is even more noticeable on automotive upholstery, particularly the drivers seat. There are many services available today for the refinishing or painting of leather, but beware which company you choose and ask for a demonstration before instructing them.

The reason for this is that the coatings vary dramatically in quality and in some cases only last 3-6 months. Our coatings and pigments have undergone stringent testing in independant labs and will withstand a 150kilo person getting in and our of a corvette seat 60,000 times over a 4 day period – with 0% failure! We are so confident in our refinishing service that we can demonstrate with a newly refinished seat, using a electric palm sander with 240gr paper and the full weight of a man pressing on the the seat whilst the sander is switched on. It is very hard to give generic advice, and whilst many articles and blogs seem to contradict one and other, in most cases they are all offering the correct or good advice, albeit not very clear. The fact is that it is impossible to give the same piece of advice to any two different clients, even if they have the same sofas. There are so many variables to consider when offering care advice for your leather. Things such as product choice, type of leather, cleaning tool, the cleaner’s experience of leather cleaning, the climate in which the furniture has seen its use, all of which have an impact on the advice given.

I was sitting in a coffee shop on the sea front on saturday with my wife, enjoying the morning sun and a decent coffee, when a sales rep walked along with a British couple in tow. she was showing them an empty bar, with the obvious intent of having them spend their life savings on the lease of this bar.
